Boating Pond 1961 by Edward Ardizzone 1900-1979Boating Pond 1961

The Simon Blaxland Collection of Edward Ardizzone’s artwork is a fascinating single-owner archive of watercolours and drawings loving amassed over the past 30 years.

Edward Ardizzone (1900-1979) is one of the best-loved of British illustrators and his work is keenly sought after. Simon Blaxland however was ahead of the game and 30 years ago was captivated by the loose-hand and hypnotically undulating line that Ardizzone’s work displays with such ease.

As such in his penniless early twenties he started collecting this great artist’s artwork and over the past three decades has amassed a fascinating array of book illustration, sketches, wine labels and impromptu drawings by this much- loved artist. Not only is it a superb archive of Ardizzone’s work but this exhibition provides an insight in to the collector’s mind and keen eye which dictated his acquisitions for so many years. With over thirty pictures on display from this private collection with artwork not seen previously at exhibition. Not to be missed.
